It’s not often that “affordable” and “carbon” appear in the same sentence, but our Control 29 Carbon wheelset was designed to change that. Utilizing many of the same techniques used in the development of the SL iteration of the Control 29, these wheels provide the lightweight XC performance you need at a more attainable price. Creating a successful XC wheelset isn't as easy as you might think. Often times, keeping a wheel light, stiff, and strong requires an unlimited budget. So when we were asked to create a wheel that had low inertia and weight, but was also affordable, strong enough to take on rocks and roots, and wide enough to optimize traction and rolling resistance, we knew that we had our work cut out for us. We started with the notion of keeping these wheels as close to their SL brethren as possible. And with this, we explored what made the SLs so awesome in the first place, and then we implemented nearly every aspect of them. Starting with the rim, we kept our renowned Zero Hook Bead that allows for continuous fiber layup across the sidewall and rim bed. We then paired it with a wide 25-millimeter internal profile that makes it resilient to impact and creates a tire profile that’s conducive to low rolling resistance and incredible traction. On the trail, these technical traits translate to a wheelset that many XC riders have grown to love—quick accelerations on punchy climbs, swift stopping that lets you leave braking till the last second, and unprecedented reliability. Combine this with the easy to set up our 2Bliss Ready system and you have a reliable XC wheelset that’s as easy to climb on as it is to work on. To go along with the rim, we made sure to keep the lightweight, reliable, and affordable features in mind when building the wheelset, so we took DT Swiss 350 Classic hubs (15x110mm thru-axle front / 12x148mm thru-axle rear) and hand-laced them with 28 DT Swiss Competition Race spokes. Finding hand-built wheels is becoming more and more difficult, but we're fully invested in the power of the human touch. When a wheel is machine-built, there are certain margins of error that are built into the system that result in inconsistencies. With a real person building your wheels, however, you're sure to get a wheelset that's free of imperfections. - Rim Type: Carbon clincher, 2Bliss Ready, Zero Bead Hook design, black graphic under clear coat. - Rim Material: Carbon fiber - Rim Width: 25mm internal - Front Spoke Pattern: Two-cross - Rear Spoke Pattern: Two-cross - Spoke Count: 28h Front, 28h Rear - Spoke Type: DT Swiss Competition Race J-bend - Nipple Type: DT Swiss Alloy Pro Lock hexagonal - Front Hub: DT Swiss 350 Classic, 28h, 15x110mm thru-axle, 6-bolt, includes 15x110mm 19mm OD end caps. - Rear Hub: DT Swiss 350 Classic, 28h, 36t quick engagement ratchet system cassette, 12x148mm, includes SRAM XX1 XD freehub. - Includes 31mm OD end caps for front hub - Bearing Type: Sealed cartridge - Every wheel includes a tubeless valve stem in order to make tubeless set-up a touch easier. - Assembly Method: Hand-built - Total Wheelset Weight: 1610g
In the early design phases of our Traverse Fattie 29, we recognized that the number of aluminum wheels that had the prowess to both shred rowdy descents and to provide the efficiency required of our Northern California testing grounds' relentless climbs were far and few between. We also came to realize that trail riders expect certain features in a proper, send-it-ready wheelset. And for the price, we found that alloy hit many of these expectations, while also keeping enough jingle-jangle in your wallet for a post-ride beverage. Along with light overall weight, stiffness, and durability, another top priority for the Traverse was ease of use. First off, we got rid of the creaky straight-pull spokes and corrosion-prone alloy nipples. Next up, we landed on 28 J-bend spokes, for front and rear wheels, that are all the same length—making it easy to find replacements if needed. And finally, we engineered a new hub design, with a wider profile and higher flange to aid in overall stiffness. We took the traditional 19- to 23-millimeter standard and moved it out to what we found worked best in testing—a whopping 30mm “Fattie” width. A wide rim does a variety of things for ride performance—it better supports the tire for increased confidence and grip, it affords you the ability to run lower pressures, and it spreads impact out over a larger surface area to reduce the risk of damage. We also added our Zero Bead hook design to the mix, and this ultimately aids in preventing “burps” during hard cornering, while also making tubeless set up quick and easy. After developing what we found to be the perfect alloy trail wheels, we went farther down the perfection path, hand-lacing the rims to our own alloy hubs that allow for the same spoke length throughout the entire wheelset, via 28 DT Swiss Revolution J-Bend spokes and Pro Lock nipples. Inside our hubs, you'll find sealed cartridge bearings and DT Swiss 360 rear internals that'll keep you rolling smoothly for miles. We also wanted to ensure that each wheel was built correctly, so we built them by hand. Each wheelset comes packaged with a SRAM XD-driver and a tubeless valve stem in order to make tubeless set-up a touch easier. Please note that Shimano freehubs are sold separately.

The trails in our neck of the woods get pretty hairy, pretty fast, so we've found them to be the perfect testing ground for tough, nimble wheels like our Traverse 27.5 Carbon. The steep climbs and descents helped inspire some pretty radical designs, and most importantly, left us with no doubt that these wheels will exceed your expectations. Let's talk about those expectations. They include everything from the ability to stay true after launching off drops to being light enough to efficiently pedal to the top of a climb—and they all begin with the rim. Our engineers knew they wanted carbon fiber, and with the inclusion of our Zero Bead Hook design, they were able to implement a continuous fiber layup across the sidewall and rim bed. And when paired with a whopping 30-millimeter internal rim width, you get a wheel that's super resilient to impact with low rolling resistance and incredible traction. You'll also find that it helps prevent "burping" during hard cornering, while making tubeless set up quick and easy. A wider rim does a variety of things for ride performance—it better supports the tire for increased confidence and grip, and it affords you the ability to run lower pressures to aid in the aforementioned, as well as spreading impact out over a larger surface area to reduce the risk of damage during impact. And when you combine this girth with the notoriously nimble and playful 27.5 platform, you’re left with an incredibly stiff, quick to accelerate wheelset that climbs just as well as it shreds descents. After designing the perfect trail rim, we kept our lightweight and durable design properties in mind with the wheel build, hand-lacing the rims DT Swiss 350 Classic hubs via 28 (front) and 28 (rear) DT Swiss Competition Race spokes and brass Pro Lock nipples. Inside, you'll find sealed cartridge bearings and a 36t quick engagement ratchet system for quick accelerations. We also wanted to ensure that each wheel was built correctly, and we found that this could only be achieved by hand. Machines, we found, have a tendency to miss little mistakes that humans would otherwise catch. Finally, with the 15x110 / 12x148mm variant, you receive all of the benefits that Boost spacing offers. By increasing the width of the front and rear hub flanges, and in turn, increasing frame and fork clearance and stiffness, you obtain a stiffer, stronger, and more durable system at a minor weight penalty. Each wheelset comes packaged with a SRAM XD driver, 11-speed freehub, and a tubeless valve stem in order to make tubeless set-up a touch easier. *Please note that Shimano freehubs are sold separately. - Rim Type: Carbon clincher, 2Bliss Ready, Zero Bead Hook design. 650b wheels are notorious for their playful handling, which is why the ultra-wide design of the Roval Traverse SL Fattie 650b wheels are the perfect complement to this style of riding. The reason is behind this simple: Aside from an immaculate, lightweight, and bombproof carbon layup, with a wide, 30mm carbon rim (internal width), these wheels dramatically increase both stability and traction. Ultimately, this all boils down to more control. The extra width also allows for more tire volume, which means more suppleness in the ride quality. And not only this, but the ample width also better supports the tire, meaning that you'll experience less "burping" when riding tubeless. These wheels also include the Roval tubeless plug system, which is an easy and super lightweight solution for tubeless setups. At the front hub, you'll get a thru-axle design with 15/20mm compatibility (end cap options included), and at the rear, the hub features DT Swiss internals for lightening-fast engagement and acceleration. And to top everything off, these wheels are hand-built to ensure a painstaking attention to detail.
The Roval Control SL 29 Torque Tube 148 wheels are nearly identical to the Control SL 29s, with the only exception being at the front hub. With the Torque Tube 148mm variant, you receive all of the benefits that Boost spacing offers while continuing to run a RockShox RS-1 fork. By increasing the width of the rear hub flange, and in turn, increasing frame clearance and stiffness, you obtain a stiffer, stronger, and more durable system at a minor weight penalty. If you're running an RS-1, you'll get hand-built, ultralight carbon perfection with a Zero Bead Hook design. This design pairs perfectly with tubeless tires, while also increasing both strength and impact-resistance. Meanwhile, the rims have been laced via DT Swiss Competition Race spokes to strong alloy hubs with DT Swiss 240 internals (rear only) that serve-up lightening-fast engagement and acceleration.
Get rowdy aboard Roval's Fatboy SL Wheelset while keeping your fat bike trim. This set stays lightweight thanks to 90mm-wide, hookless-bead aluminum rims with aggressive cut-outs, butted spokes and aluminum nipples. Since you'll likely be riding it through snow, sand, and any other obstacle Mother Nature throws your way, they're also durable. Sealed cartridge bearings—two in the front hub and four in the rear—ensure these hoops roll for miles. The rear hub is convertible to an optional SRAM XD driver to set your steed up 1x11.
